Post subject:  PROBLEM FITTING TWIN SU MANIFOLD

Have just bought a twin 1 1/2" SU manifold and having problems fitting it.
The extractor pipe at the #1 end of the engine is coming into contact with the carby mount part of the manifold. A second set of extractors I have are the same and also contact. The pipe seems to sit out further than the other two by about 10mm.
The carby at the #4 end hits the clutch master cylinder with its float bowl.
The clutch master cylinder is a new aftermaket type and is not positioned at the same rotation angle as an original metal tank type.
Has anyone else had similar problems and know how to fix this?
Regards,
Ron

What is the manifold off? Does it having any casting numbers on it so you could identify it?

The manifold is a copy of AEG489

it's normal that you need to file the side of the flange a bit to fit inbetween the extractors, I usually need to open up the stud holes too - unless I'm confused about where it's hitting

as for contacting the clutch MC, the only real solution is spacers to move the carbs back towards the firewall. My 1 1/2" SU's on a Lynx manifold have roughly 40mm spacers on them

Well i cut the manifold as was suggested and it worked.
I took the clutch master cylinder off, drilled out the little locating pin and rotated the bowl around and it is now in a better location. I will also put in an 8mm aluminium spacer which will bring the bottom fuel line up a bit higher. The carbs I have are off a datsun so the fuel bowl lines come out the front instead of the side.

can't you unscrew and rotate the lids?
