Hi there. I have just acquired a very straight 850 shell from a friend of mine. However it has two sections of rust at the bottom of the rear bulkhead where it meets the boot floor on both sides of the centreline of the car. I have not looked under the car yet to see whether the rust has spread to the boot floor. I have to assume it has. How do I fix this short of the unpopular method of replacing the offending section with one from a donor shell? It looks a very tricky repair. All bodywork gurus out there, your advice would be very welcome. |

There is no cure other than to cut out the affected section & replace it. Great if you can find a donor that actually has a decent section, as they rust from inside the boot out. I had to make the replacement sections by hand. Some rust converter on the inside and plenty of underbody sealer will prevent water getting in and making it worse until proper repairs can be effected. |

You can either make the replacement pieces from sheet metal or buy a replacement boot section. But my advise would be not to destroy another body just to salvage some replacement pieces which are easy to fabricate from sheet metal. |
