Post subject:  South African oil filter number

Hi all my brothers car originally came from South Africa, so his oil filter bolts straight to the block.

He went to the local auto store to get a new filter armed with the filter numbers. None matched the numbers he had so the lad gave him the one he thought would work. Got it home wasnt right.

The oil filter removed has "made in South Africa" which would explain why he couldnt match it.

Does anyone know the Ryco or coopers or whatever part number that will suit?

Thanks Brenton

I just went out and pulled the filter off my Montego and it has a Unipart GFE150 filter. I don't know if the Montego uses the same filter as the SA Mini but they mount the same way to the front of the block.

Looking at the Ryco cross reference chart was no help.
Looking at the net it seems to be the same filter as the late UK Midget with the 1500 Truimph Spitfire motor and also surprisingly it fits a Triumph Spitfire as well.

Same as the twin-point injection blocks from early 2000s? Those didn't even have a dizzy hole.

Not a very good photo of it but you can see how it works...

Looking at the net it appears that the GFE150 has a drain back valve because it fits upside-down.

Nope it's not, it's bigger diameter- we went through all this a while back on the MM forum. I don't think it's the same as the Montego either.
I've asked the question on the SA forum..

Reply from SA Mini forum-
"Z93 is the GUD filters one"

So I'd say Ryco Z93 or equivalent...

[edit] they also confirm that a FRAM PH2869 fits.

Hmmm...
Z93 thread = M16-x1.5-6H
Z418 thread = 3/4-16-UNF-2B

I wonder what the Montego one is?

It's not just the thread, I'm pretty sure the seal face diameter is bigger too.

Just found a reference on the net that says the Unipart GFE150 is the same as the Z93. :D :D :D :D
So the Montego is the same as the SA ones.

Now I find on the Fiamm filters page the specs for the Z93 are different to what Ryco says on their page.

Fiamm says the thread is 5/8"-16
Ryco says the thread is M16-x1.5-6H
