Progress:
This morning I used my 2 leg puller coz I have one, with a thick cable tie cinched round the legs.
Seal came out easy, but.....

As the primary gear butted up to the back of the seal, PING!!! that bloody seal spring parted & went `boing' in amongst the drop gears.
So, the &&%^*!^% flywheel housing has to come off, anyway. :twisted:

I may as well have pulled the cover first and saved myself the trouble. :lol:

Sounds like bad luck with the spring - and may explain a similar spring someone found in an oil change recently......

That book does look interesting..... especially if more info like that....

OK I want to remove 2 clutch seals that are already installed, without taking the flywheel housings off. I'm looking at making a puller from and old clutch plate, which will clamp to the primary gear splines with a plate across the end of the crank, just turn a bolt and pull it and the seal out. I made one of these a zillion years ago but lost it. Q- is there an easier way. I usually change em with the motor out and flywheel housing off......

I have a slightly modified small 3 leg puller (slight grind to reduce the thickness of the toes on the legs) that grips behind the clutch splines. Doesn't take much to pull out the seal. Bit of a fiddle getting the 3 legs positioned but when you get some tension on its OK. Works for me.

Ah well plenty of time, the new seals haven't landed yet. BTW the old seal was pretty worn, considering it's only done 11,000 miles and there's no grooves in the primary gear. Whoever is making these cheapo seals shouldn't bother.
