Post subject:  Front Trumpets VF11 vs VF9
Everyone has told me front trumpets are the same for all cars.

Ive have decided to put HiLos in the front but

Ive been searching for information on different trumpets to find out what cars had the smaller trumpets in them. As some of you know i bought a van, and put some trumpets in and it rides way to high.

On closer inspection the trumpets are labelled part 530, but there is a marking VF11 on the taller one and VF9 on the shorter.

Can anybody shed some light on this.

If your fitting hilos you wont need trumpets or are you talking rear?

i know i wont need them if i use hilos

and im talking front trumpets.

just wondering how common/what uses the VF9 trumpets. My S uses the VF11 ones. And if there are any other variants.

The van had the VF9's on the front.

Just had a look at the trumpets i have left over from fitting hilos and my ones say VF11, theyre off a 78 1275LS and theyve been in there since she was born, ill go and check the trumpets on the 71 i have and let you know if theyre different.

Having never seen a hydro set up im wondering if that might be the difference ( excuse my non knowledge :oops: )

Looking in the book to try and find the length of the trumpets and it says early models until 1961 use the "1st" length - then they added a washer under the ball joint effectively lengthening the trumpet which they said added 1" to ride height - then later models were a different length and didn't require the washer

Longer ones were used with the introduction of 12" wheels - still can't find the length difference though

Hydros have a different setup... no cone, they use a strut (rod) with an alloy hat on the top that goes into the displacer.

thanks for the replies, im not finding much either. Ill actually measure them tonite and let you know the hieght of the vf9
