I have a 998 Minimatic (but it's a 1412 manual now). I drove it about for 12 months before I made it manual. Matics leak where manual ones do, with a couple of extra spots. Most common are the seals on each side of the diff, and the shift cable entry at front of box. Also the big front cover gasket, if flanges have not been cleaned properly before fitting. There is a seal behind the torque converter, it can leak too. Note the gearbox gaskets and seals are all different to a manual Mini box (but the diff seals are same as a Cooper S). |

Here's the best place for questions and answers http://autominiregister.proboards.com/ There's nothing much to go wrong on an AP auto , same with any motor , its just regular maintenance and with yours one of the cool benefits is the ability to be tow started, towed or pushed to 25kph in neutral then into 2nd and the car starts , into drive and away you go lots of parts still available still too ! . |

1st thing that goes is usually the fwd clutch, as I explained in PM. They like regular (ie frequent) oil and filter changes. ![]() |
