Could somebody with a clubman GT or someone who may know help me with the following question.

I have been working on my 10/71 GT (alternator internally regulated)
And took me a while to get my wiper motor working as the correct wire that was to go to the motor was plugged into the double green wire (the wire was green with a black tracer).

Once that was sorted and i had everything working ( i think everything-lights, blinkers, wipers, washer motor etc) i had two wire ends left over, as shown below

Now the double wire with the black end is an active, and the wires are plain green and go down with the general wiring harness and across the front of the car and stop where you see them. (i havnt traced it right back)

The single green wire with the metal male connector runs down the wiring harness from behind the dash some where (i havnt traced it further than that) and is not an active or earth wire. It appears to have a red tracer (but is very faded/worn)

I have tried to follow the gregories wiring diagram but is very poor as it says wrong coloured wires and excludes some things that the GT has.

So can somebody tell me where they go/what they are for.

Hopefuly GT mowog, or Gavin from NZ sees this

Would it green / brown ? That would be the reverse light switch - mounted on the gearbox approx below the alternator.....

Eg are your reverse lights hooked up ?

agreed these are likely your reverse lights.

they will turn on both the indicators when connected together. To test connect them to a switch, put your car in acc mode and flick the switch.

Yeah it probably is green witha brown trace

Oh ok excellent reversing lights below the alternator, I will have a look today. But there isnt any wires heading that way at the moment so i think your right these would be it.

Thanks so much Minimal effect and Drexle, I will fix that today

The other guys have answered your first. The Switch is (or should be) mounted on the Front of the Gearbox Casing just to the right of the Oil Filter, it sits at about a 45 deg angle.

i left mine off, its a legal requirement for rego to have reversing lights.

but i would have ripped them apart on 4x4 tracks, so i have them tucked up inside the dash hooked to a toggle switch.

But my 71 Clubman never came out with reverse lights or the wires to hook a reverse light up and it is legally rego'd!!! I think you'll find the law only came in at the end of 71,when ARD came in and if it didn't have it from Factory it ain't have to have it now!

This is true, they can't make you retrofit them.

You car has the reversing light switch on the back of the rod-change housing and the wires run along the bottom of the sub-frame from the engine bay and you are correct they are easily damaged on dirt roads.
On the Clubman GT the switch is on the front/top of the gearbox and it is fairly safe from damage.
Another great step backwards from Leyland.

The 22G846 gearbox i picked up last week has the reverse light switch in it, so when was this box used, and in what models?

I've seen the 846 in various different later Morris minis, I read in one book that the part # was originally for the elf/hornet but I think the Oz factory didn't discriminate them from the 1128 boxes.

All the 846s I've seen have the reversing switch though.

cheers

Jacob
