I was just doing a bit more work on my spare 12G202 cylinder head when I thought I may have a look what cylinder head the van actually had. (In hope there may have been a 12G295 on it) To my suprise it had a 12G201. I had done a bit of a internet search and an ausmini search and can find any info on a 12G201. Any wize people have any info on it? Is it rare?

Clayton

I've never heard of a 201...that by all means doesn't mean it doesn't exist  ;)

Sure it's not a 202?

Nope its definitely a 12G201. I have 3 x 12G202's allready.
This the cover itself had a BMC sticker on it, so could it be from another type of car?

The number is cast in the middle of the head rather than on the edge.

It could be a very common number I have no idea, but from all my searching tonight I have found no information what so ever.

So yeah any of the wize men on the board have any idea?

Never ever seen or heard of a 12G201- could be the casting ID mark on the pattern they used was a bit iffy and it's really a 202 or 206 or 295...
 Measure inlet valve size-
if 1.156" it's probably a 12G202, if 1.219" it's a 12G295, or 12G206 (same as a 295 but without the manifold locating rings in ports).
<edit> all these 3 have square inlet ports.

thats a real interesting one i just went and had a look at my head collection and all the 202 heads are quite obvious and very clearly not 201 ie the cast lettersand numbers are precise .. to read 201 it would have to be a completely different casting.. any chance of you taking a pic of that part of the head??

After reading the posts I got worried and though maybe my eyes were decieving me.
So I went bact and had another look to take some photos hoping I wasnt going to be embarrased.
Phew.. I was right and here are the photos:
The block number associated with the head is: 99H834AJH10033

So what do you think, spark anyones memory banks?

Note 1: This engine is not the cars original power plant... obviously as its an 850 van.
Note 2: The other interesting this is that it has a BL mark on the head British Leyland? and a BMC rocker cover. The whole engine has its original matching paint job though and it looks its age.

Well how bout that?
If I were you, I'd be doing one of the following:
Keeping it
Or trying to get 10 grand or more for it on ebay, claiming it as some legendary part fitted to some famous car, and that it is the only one ever made. 8)

Hehe good one, I was waiting for someone to do something like that.

I'll have to ask around at the mini club over here (WA) maybe someone has come across one in their time.

Though with my luck it is probably as common as cornflakes in some 3rd world country.
However I'm hoping it is one of a few prototype casts for the 202... but yeah I'm not going to claim that until I really find some evidenence, there is enough scamsters out there without me adding to the pile :)
