I am in dire straits with this one. I have seperated one of the cv joints with the traditional few sharp blows. Cheerin ![]() The other is a real bugger and that is putting it nicely. I have smacked the daylights out of it from a small hammer to a 4 pounder. My shoulder is about to give in. Apart from the obvious response of "get another one" does anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks Brian |

Get a proper puller they are cheap and work better than the hammer method which can damage it. |

Thanks Brian Sometimes the wire clip inside expands more than it should have (someone replaced and stretched it perhaps?) and instead of retracting - as it should - in part it comes out of the groove. Sorry to say, but there ain't much you can do now other than to really belt it HARD with a BFH to try to shear the wire clip ![]() |

Clamp the drivesaft onto a bench vice with soft jaws, get a piece of hardwood (offcut flooring timber is the best type) and belt the crap out of the wood |

I had a similar issue..... hitting with BFH not doing any good.... ... replacing CVs anyway ... ...... so CARFEULLY used an angle grinder to open the carrier so I could get one of the ball bearings out..... This then allowed me to get a screwdriver inside and relocate the circlip.... Came apart as normal after that..... |

You could always take it to a local cv joint reconditioner if there are any near you. They will get it off if you can't. |

Try this Get a piece of pipe that bits over the drive shaft and is longer than shaft and fits nicley into the drive shaft under the cv then hold it as high as you can and drop it squarlry onto some concrete what happens is pressure is placed squarley on to the rear of the cv and it should pop off if you havent jambed crushed the retaining ring. if that fails cut the pipe so you can hold the shaft, weld two 10mm by 50mm flat pieces of flat bar on to the end so they will sit on the face of the cv and form a T, they need to be about 100mm or so longer that the cv. then you get an assistant to hold the shaft ar put in a vice. Then with two bfh hit both pieces of the bar at the same time. What this does is stop the cv twisting when you hit it. Watch your legs when you strike Kiwiinwgtn |

you can disassemble the CV - clean all the grease out, find the one that has a slot in the cage, push the shaft over as far as you can and pop that ball out with a screwdriver, then rotate and pop the rest out... I've never tried it with a driveshaft in, but should be possible - then you can get the circlip from the other side which half do you want to re-use? the shaft or the CV joint? |
