Interesting item.

A 1275 in a 1962 Cooper. Wrote to the seller to clarify item but no reply to date. Interested to hear what the rest of u guys would have to say.

Yeah most probably is a 997 cooper. but in body only. Rover wheels, 1100s(?)motor, later model mk1 heater.

Is does have cooper doors on it though, Sliders with the chrome trim around it.

So yeah id say its fairly represented.

As for price probably in the ball park.

Car # 3268, I think would put it later than '62

It also has correct binnacle, speedo (probably oil & temp gauges), ashtray and heater.

Wrong 2 screw tail light, grille is dented, coopers did not come with flares,
Late model polution head. Genuine YKA2S 997 or 998 number.

Has 7 inch discs and 1275, that is essentially illegal... sould be running 7.5s if running a 1275

To be honest, for $14000 it should be much more original with this and come with matching engine numbers. Not doubting it's authencity but for the price, I'd be asking for more than just a late model 1275 engine thats my opinion.

Comes with a dent too... that's no good... $8,000 maybe $10,000 since it's a cooper but good luck finding a 997/998 cooper engine to match. Pass

I didnt look at the car number, but if it was a 62 model wouldnt it have one of the rectangular boxes for a heater (as Mick's does)?

The later coopers had the "mk 1 cooper s" style heater (my mates 64 998cooper has the mk1 s style)

It also has the cutouts of the front valance for the brake cooling when did this come in?

That's true, it would have to be a later model to have that heater. But I think it would be '63 or '64 with that car #

I think the cutouts were '64

Would be lucky to get even $7,000 here - engine to be rebuilt, engine compartment a filthy mess (suggests out of sight stuff might need lots of help), brake upgrade after inspection(?), body work (dent) - and what else?

^^ Any of you guys actually bought a mini recently? This one has been for sale fore a while so maybe it is overpriced but there are others that I looked at that after ages of being advertised at mid teens then sold for 11ish. Most that I looked at or discussed had way more serious flaws than a messy engine bay or a single dent or god-forbid a few modifications over the last 45 years.

After selling my ratty but fun 1275 with discs etc etc for $3500 a couple of years ago that same car is probably even rattier but now worth more than $6000.

IMO if the body doesn't need a bare-metal rebuild and the mechanicals are all there then she's 9k minimum.

I love a good argument though, so go on belt me!

There are some to be had for what you describe. A friend has recently bought an 850 S lookalike with twin tanks and a genuine FSAY 1275 with discs, recently 2pac'd, Newton commerical interior (bling!) for less than half that asking price...

I'd rather buy the K or the matic on this page:

It looks nice, but blowing a little smoke, and being technically illegal (Cooper brakes)... $14k's a bit much. Especially given that the thing that makes it illegal (1275) also means it's not original. Still a nice car, though.

Quick question - that boot lid's been replaced, hasn't it..? Shouldn't it have an English/wide number plate boot lid..? :?

I'll put my 2 cents worth in with one word. Dodgy.
1962 :roll: For starters, the front valance cutouts did not appear until 1965. Whilst it has the correct heater unit, the control knobs for the choke and heater are wrong. Good luck to the seller anyway, only improves the value of my 998 cooper.

I was just wondering when the change over between the smiths box heaters (same as Micks) to the mk 1 cooper s style, Im just curious, so there mustnt have been many at all with the box type heater?
