Post subject:  Alloy Rocker Cover clearance problems?
I am talking about these things:

Either I have one that is made from a dud casting (doubtful) or they are all like this, but mine does not clear my rockers! It either touches from the back of the rockers or the springs on the front. I've only realised this recently as I've been drawn attention to it because of increased valve train noise.

I believe because it has been rubbing and bumping for who knows how many miles, it has caused the geometry to go out of whack and hence I now have a noisy lifter. Can be heard over the rumbling of the Dellorto it's that loud.

Anyone else find these rocker covers to be a bit tight for space?

Have gone back to my good old Mowog cover. Doesn't look as good but at least it works! :shock:

yep, these are narrower than the stock. especially with 1.5 roller rockers u will have to mod it. (Had to do so myself)

Just file the holes out on the front where the tappet is held down by the T bars, or bolts. This will allow you to push the cover back further, and get clearance :) easy 10 min fix :)

Not quite, the inside front of the cover then rubs on number 1 & 8 valve springs :shock:

Check the clearance all round. I run the sloping Metro alloy cover with 1.5 rollers and 527 springs and had to clearance it front and back.

I found you need to file the 2 holes at front then push back 1.5mm or so, to clear Corolla rockers.
There are better covers about if you want to run rollers.

simple fly cut to reduce the thickness of the rear wall. Works with 1.5 rollers.

Nar not that easy. my holes are oval shaped as it is. There is litterally 1mm clearance to either no1 and no8 spring and rockers at the back.

Chrome Mowog cover for me!! :lol:

that's strange, there should be plenty of room to do this.. oh wells, worked for me :)

Funny thing is although they were factory fitted to the MG Metro and Turbo models, they have been around since the 60's.

I have the same rocker cover that worked with the Corolla rockers on mine. It's sitting in the shed if you want to borrow it to try. Doc may remember if we had to play with it to get it to fit, I don't.

Yes we did, but it fitted.
Those particular Chinese made diecast covers (yeah one we got had the sticker inside) are pretty thin.

The Oz sand cast ones (like this) were thick enough that you could mill them out thinner, as said above.
[edit] this one has Minispares 1.5 forged rockers and they clear fine now.

Are you sure about that? I ran for 8000 miles before realising I had a problem... open it up and have a look inside to see if there are any scrapes, nicks or rubbing
