Post subject:  Anyone got access to an empty rover boot? (maybe 1275ls)

I need to make a bracket for my car that allows me to fit a late model fuel tank.
The early tanks had the strap go over the tank and mounted to the floor, but the later tanks had the strap go around the tank and anchor to a bracket welded into the floor the early cars don't have.

I need to make a conversion bracket. It won't be welded to the floor so instead it'll be a bolt in job. I'll use the existing captive nut in the floor and the rear subframe mounting bolt to hold the bracket down, and and a vertical component can have the hole for the strap to screw into.

What would be very useful to me is if anyone can get me the location of where the hole in the bracket needs to be relative to the subframe bolt.

In the above image, red is the height of the bolt to the floor, blue is the offset of the tank bolt to the subframe bolt, green is te offset of the bracket face to the subframe bolt and the yellow cross is roughly where the subframe bolt would be.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

the standard tank strap still works with the long range tank, have you tried that?

That is how the 1275LS tank was fitted.

I did try that but it seemed a bit unstable, and that was with an empty tank.
I figured that's why they changed it.
Maybe I'll revisit that.

Don't need the numbers anymore, I made a bracket up already that does the job well.
Still using the rover bracket, I just made a small angle piece to fit in the bottom between it and the morris mount.
Its in, and rock solid. :D

I'm fitting a late rover MPI tank as well to my '68. What does your bracket look like? Is it just a right angle bracket that bolts to the original captive nut that the early tank strap fixed too? Sorry, but I'm visual... could I be a pain and have a picture? :oops:

I'll get a photo of it if I remember some time but as you said, just a right angled bracket mounting to the captive nut.

I used the rover tank, strap, the 3 inch bolt and the clip on 'captive' nut. The bracket is only little, less than 2 x 2 x 2 inches.
It's straight forward to set up, the only trick is that there is a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank that looks like a mounting hole: it isn't used at all, the bolt at the end of the tank strap goes under it.

Wow that was fast service! :lol:

I was wondering what the hole was for... More photos the better, I have to drill one more larger hole and a smaller one for the over flow/vent. I'm putting the fuel regulator in the boot and the rover fuel filter on the subframe underneath. See http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67644&start=32

If it helps, the rover fuel filter is has the same fittings as Honda filters (possibly because it's a standard thing I'm not sure) but useful to know.

Handy to know. I've got a brand new filter and a S/H Rover filter bracket. It mounts to the subframe via two small bolts. Here is an image I gleamed from the net:

Unfortunately even though the two holes are there, the filter bracket fouls on the brake pipe that runs near there. I guess the Rover pipe lines are routed differently. Never mind, I'll just move the filter back to the rear of the car by one hole and drill a new hole. :roll:

Thanks for that. I can now see the bracket quite clearly. What are those connectors that you are using, are they bulkhead connectors?
