metal stress , out of balance forces, any number of things. very unusual for the web to crack there, I would suspect that the crank has distorted or the block /mains are misaglined and the stress point is then acting on the web. |

This is what happened to a friend's car on the weekend at Winton. ![]() We're pulling the motor apart on Saturday to find out what happened. The theory at the moment is a dropped valve. Motor is a turbo 20valve 4AGE. |

Perhaps not as spectacular as some above, but ![]() 1100 engine which had a big end let go. Wreaked (shortlist);- Crank Block Rod Piston Camshaft Gearboxcase About the only items that were salvagable was the head and rocker gear. |

Slightly off the topic Customer towed in a late model BMW a week ago because they drove it into flood water. So we took the plugs out and started trying to turn it over, but it wouldn't budge, so we jacked it up and oil started running out ![]() There is a hole big enough for my hand to fit through in the side of the block. So remember peoples, if your not sure wether its low enough to drive through, don't try it! Especially if you own a nice expensive BMW. |

The little 1.6 made 240 rear wheel kW. The boost got turned down to 10psi for the weekend at the track and that's when it went bang. Moral of the story? |
