shopping.... gotta love having KC just around the corner... single or twin box rc40? is a single going to be too loud?

Wow, i was working on derby street for about a month, and never even went into karkraft..
I was a stones throw away!

I would get twin RC40's, one on either side.
I'm a sucker for twin exhausts

I have a 1275 with head work and a cam and it can get pretty loud with a single muffer............if your driving a long way that drone can get pretty dam irritating!!

Matt,

The older you get (or I get plus several ausmini mates I know) the quieter you want your car to be. I'm pretty sure Doc, GR and Lillee etc have done some engine dyno tests and the benefit you get from running a single RC40 doesn't outweigh the quiet sweet note of a twin box setup.

PS Adam, this isn't a twin exhaust setup; it is two mufflers in series along the same pipe.

When I had mine, I was going to go down the twin box and 1.75 SU route replacing a lukey single and 45DCOE to quieten it down!

But on the flip side - you're only young once and you're going to go deaf at some stage anyhow :lol:

I find the single box RC40 quite OK and acceptable with Cams up to about 265 - 270 deg timing, more than that and a twin box set up to get rid of the resonant bark at certain RPMs. This will depend on your particular engine displacement and head specs too.

How loud is loud? - half watching one of those 'reality' cop shows last night a young bloke in NSW was pulled over for loud exhaust. At the end of the segment it said on the screen that the limit was" 90dB about the same as a hairdryer" - it would depend how close but does that sound right (forgive the pun)

I've had a single and a twin box set up on Slidey. Without a doubt I would recommend the single. It's not too loud at all.

I have a twin setup as I found the single RC40 a bit too loud.
I have also found the noise is louder as the exhaust ages.

I ran a single box RC40 on the 1360 with a 282 cam, yes it had a bit of a bark. But not excessive.
I now have a 2" system, and the bark is a bit louder. :P

The twin RC40 will give you a little more power over the single box and you get to keep your hearing as well :D . That said, I have the lukey straight through muffler with glass stuffing...loud and you get that lovely "bratt bratt bratt" at idle.

In loss I am talking a poofteenth less using the single box vice the twin. I like the lukeys as they are easy to fit and have a turned up exit. I had the twin but it kept breaking the rear mounts. The lukeys never broke :D

This said though - I have to get my arse into gear and get mine back on the road!!

a long time ago i had a single straighthrough lukey with centre exit on a smallblock, god did that sound awesome.

single box, connecting pipe and fitting kit, for $130.... nice!

now the next part... do i weld the bottom of the manifold to the connecting middle pipe or clamp the beh-jesus out of it?
