Post subject: | re-bushing door hinges |
I re-bushed & pinned my door hinges last night and despite the pin being a very firm fit there is still noticeable movement of the pin in the bush. The bush was a tight fit, I used the bench vice to press it in (I did run a 5/16 drill bit through hinge after removing the old bush & prior to fitting the new bush just to clean it up) Maybe I got a crook set of bushes Any suggestions? |

You might see that the movement is caused by the door's hinge casting having spread as the bush wore out and caused the door to sag. Carefully push the pin out, take the hinge apart again, leaving the bush in place. Use a vice (with soft jaws fitted) to carefully squeeze the door side of the hinge a little. Trial fit it without the pin to the other half until you get a nice firm fit. Then reinstall the pins. I think you will find the hinge more like it should be after this. |

Thanks Mick, I will give that a try, I did notice that the tolerances between the two hinges sections were a little sloppy. |

Yeah, there's more than one bearing surface in these hinges.. |
