Post subject:  Head Coolant Bypass Thread Size

does anyone know what size thread this pesky little thing is?

it appears the nipple that goes into the head for the coolant bypass is so corroded on mine, i cannot get enough purchase on it with a hose clamp...

i don't like my fancy new red coolant on the floor

i know it's a contentious issue whether to plug this or not. i'm thinking i'll plug it.

so what size thread is it?

should i use brass or steel plug? does it matter?

cheers.

5/8" UNF. I use steel plugs but I also use a good coolant / inhibitor.

I make DrMini ST brass adaptors. Never rust out like the originals do. 8)
However if plugging it off, a steel plug will work fine.

hmmm, i've been wanting some DrMini porn parts on my car for a while now....

Doc, how long is the "barb" for want of a better term, or smooth nipple, on your adaptors?

i'm trying to use a wide clamp on a kevlar hose but my old adaptor does not have enough left in it for the clamp to grab on to....

Doc are yours barbed or have a 'bead' on the end?

Mine are straight, no barbs, I turn them from a BOC gases oxy hose joining nipple. I've never had a leak problem with std rubber 1/2" radiator hose on there.
Length of the straight bit (guess) is around 1/2".
