Continuing on from czerials thread........ i present my mishap today in Slidey.

The following scenario presents itself.........

1 80klm/h Freeway (not doing 80 thank god.......)
1 Bonnet Spring not set right
1 Dodgy Bonnet latch pin

=

Latch pin snaps, bonnet rattles free....... you can guess the rest

The last 2 pics are after 4 and bit hours carefully bending bonnet and body lips back into place and relining bonnet hinges and the bonnet.......

Has not been a good weekend

 I really feel for you!!!

This happened to me in the old clubman, luckily I had done away with the bonnet stay and fitted a gas strut, otherwise it would have wrapped itself over the roof.

Coming to a stop is "exciting" when you can't see huh

It's harrowing to hear this happened coz Slidey looks so tidy!!!

When I bought my clubby I did not notice that the bonnet hinges were twisted and the dent in the bonnet but what I found out one day driving with my dad is that the bonnet likes to spring up at you and give you a nice surprise....
Oh well just another dent and a bit more money to give away to the little beast....

damn.. that is such a shame... hope slidey is feeling better, and you to! Could have turned out much worse... now I know why they sell those bonnet straps, aways wondered whether it was a 'fashion' add on or actually served a purpose...

I've had 'em on for years- peace of mind at 100MPH on the track... a bonnet wrapped over the screen is not a pretty sight!
Hope it gets fixed OK Steve- that's a shmick car..

I can totally empathise with you SG. It happened to me about a year ago coming across the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak hour. Very scary  Needless to say the bonnet has never really been the same since. The following day I invested in some bonnet straps and have never looked back.
