Just fitted a ramflo filter to my 998 clubbie.Started it up , its now barely running, engine is idling very rough, sparkplugs are carboned up really badly. Any ideas anyone?

yep - take it off again!

it's running rich, meaning not enough air is getting through, meaning the filter is restricting airflow, meaning it's worse than what was there before

Provided it has been correctly fitted, did you over oil it?

I haven't oiled it at all

You haven't fitted the backing plate up-side-down?

The is of course the big hole through the centre, and the two samller mounting holes. There should also be another two holes between these two off set towards the top. These allow air to move as required from under the piston in the carb. If the backing plate is on up-side-down, this vent is blocked and the car will hardly run.

Here's a pic

If you refer to the 'Not To Scale' sketch, it shows the correct way to fit it.

+1 on my 1100.

After the day at Hay in the dust, it runs fine, the outside is dirt and the inside is oily foam... Works for me

Geez, i bunged one on my 1275 and it ran worse than a 3 legged dog, went back to stock after much fiddling and it runs well

I've always hated the damn things but people seem to get decent results out of them, so they gotta work in some respects!

cheers'

Greeting All.

GT MOWOG. I put a couple pan-cakes on my project today. Glad I read this as I didn't even consider what those holes were for. I'm gonna check their on right in the morning. Hope to start it before the weekend.
Alex.

+1 on that - big time. I don't like the Ramflo as they 'leak'. I know the Doc swears by them, but I think he runs an after market element.

I have one on my 102kW @ the wheels Toyota starlet GT 4efte conversion.

I upgraded to the (unifilter?) aftermarket element though. Seems a lot better quality, but that said I never ran it with the standard element because of what people here said about them.

RE: the rough running, As said, make sure all hoses on the carby are in place and the ones that were connected to the air filter still are.
