This story has already been told to a few, but can be given as a warning
to some other about the peril of leaving your mini unattended..

WELL a couple of weeks ago I had a 18th at a pub in glebe. I drove, because I was not going to drink...HOWEVER the drinks were free, so I had to join in I thought. So i decided to leave my car outside the pub and walk home. Being an 18th, we all went to the city afterwards. On my walk home from the city, I had sobered up completely. (last drink was 10:30 and this was now 3am..so dont worry no driving under the influence for me) as i approached my car, it looked tilted.....SOME SMART ARSE's decided to lift Vivian half on the footpath and half on the road....idiot jokers i thought, and jsut drove off...

BUTTTTTT when they were lifting her under the wheel arches, they put a dint where there knees must have been. so now there are 4 obvious dents around the car....thanks Idiots..

I am always constantly worried about Lillee all the time...

There is no best solution other than maybe an alarm...

i'm guessing there aren't many security options other than the alarm for the mk1's

can you get solex type locks to fit sliding window'd door handles?

One of the teachers had a mini when my dad was at school, and a group of them used to pick up the car and move it in between 2 trees.

There is definetly not much you can do for the Mk1's. I've thought of fitting wind-up window doors to my car, but aren't the locks still the fail spot on them?

it's difficult... technically an alarm should be the end of it, since a broken window beats a solex lock, but since no one listens to them, i guess an immobiliser/kill switch would be the go...

Depends on the model......some early commodores are infinitely more "stealable" for car thieves than a mini if they wanted a car to steal, and less conspicuous than a mini on the road after you have reported it.
I'm speaking from the side of the fence having had a friends car stolen, not the car thieves side! and what was it....a white VL wagon (stolen three times in 12 months). He also had a white magna stolen which replaced the holden.

What is the current car theftrate compared to however many years ago?
I'd imagine thefts are down, due to technology, but breakins would be higher as these days 70% of P plater cars are only worth the electronics inside.

Same thing happened to a mate of mine a few years ago (incidentally the mate who got me into minis). He parked his mini down at Coogee and went to a concert. As he was walking back down the main drag after the concert, he thought to himself, some dickhead's gone and parked on the footpath. As he got closer it became painfully clear it was his car -- someone had lifted his car onto the path and stolen his parking spot!! Luckily he didn't have a ticket, but he had to drive about 100 metres down the footpath to find his way back to the road!!

Funny for us as they didn't do any damage - but not so funny for poor Chris. Tough break man.
