Post subject: | crooked steering wheel? |
Hey all, i've been installing my new seats and in the process of trying to 'eyeball' them square i've noticed my steering wheel looks out of square. it looks like the wheel is not parallel to the dash. should it be? it's almost like the column mounting bolts in the bottom dash rail are closer to the driver's door than they should be to make the wheel and dash rail parallel. on my reckoning with both hands on the wheel my right arm is extended more and my left arm is shorter... is this how it's meant to be? |

The wheel is closer to the door than your center. It's normal. |

Yes, and you think it's bad / noticable in a Mini, have a look in a Moke, you almost need to step out side to steer it! |

I'm talking about a mini because this is a mini forum and I'm assuming woodwormm has a mini. GT mowog is the one that mentioned the moke, I think the mokes seats are closer together than the minis so the angle on the steering wheel seems more extreme. |

correct. 900mm is basically the greatest width you can go, thus limiting the choice of seats rather dramatically... |

Actually almost all cars, even modern ones if you look closely, have the column angling slightly toward the centre of the car. As others have mentioned it's a bit more obvious in a Mini. Just one of those thing you don't usually notice. |

i guess i shouldn't make mention of the Porsche 911's where the pedals are a fair way offset from the steering wheel.... not to mention coming out of the floor (some people hate this, i'm ok with it as i learn manual in a morris minor) oooooopppss mini forum ![]() |
