Hi All,
I am reconditioning the steering rack for my mini and have read some of the threads on this forum and they have been very helpful.
I have some pictures of the rack, pinion and tie rod ends for comment on their usability.
Are parts available (eg rack lock nuts etc.) from mini suppliers. I have looked at several of the online mini traders, but they don't seem to have much for steering racks.
Your comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Kevin on here (known as the doc) would be a good one to ask. :) He does this sort of stuff. And well I might add :D

Hey rodaz, any chance of a pic of the back side of the inner rack, behind the section with the teeth?

The Rod end in your pic, the top one, throw that in the bin, it looks ready for a serious failure!

Your pinion too looks like it's seen better days.

Looks to be that it ran without oil for some time (torn boots?)

Internal new parts are NLA, except for the wave washers, oil seal, bearings, boots and Mini King does have some new pinions.

You might be best off finding another rack, but have a look at the boots first as a bit of an indicator for what may lay inside (Ozzy Made Cam Gears are the go, stay away from ALL racks made in the UK).

Hmmmmmm.......not too good by the look of those pics. Really does look like it has been without oil for some time.

You are unlikely to put that one togther with free play. Find another.
