Mine has an air leak in it now, and so I bleed the air out then about 10 minutes later I have no clutch again.
I peeled back the slave cylinder boot and saw fluid in there. So are they a straight forward replacement or is there a special procedure?

I have seen new cylinders with casting flaws and split rubbers.
The only way to tell if it is any good is to build it yourself.

Even when I buy a new cylinder I will dismantle it, clean it, inspect it and reassemble it. It saves time.

ok then. I replaced all the hydraulics including fitting a braided clutch hose :) took me two hours to remove the stubborn and siezed pin that connects to the clutch pedal lol. and after ages of bleeding all is good.

I purchased a new one months ago, put it on, bled it and it took on a life and style of its own, it now sits in the shed as the old weepy one worked better

Many new ones have a design fault, the plastic spreader inside the seal is the wrong shape. So the seals don't work for long.
If you must use a new slave, pinch the plastic spreader out of the old one.
In 36 years of Mini-ing I have never been guilty of buying a new slave cylinder.
A quick hone of the old one and new seal, they run another 20 years. 8)

yea i got a new one and put the updated seal in it. the one that comes with it only has about 2mm sealing area and the updated one has about 4-5mm.

So that means you must've started Mini-ing when you were five years old!?
