Post subject:  Clicking noise when braking

Hey,

Ive noticed when i apply the brake and start to slow down i get a clicking noise. Not sure if its coming from back or front. i was wondering if anyone knew what this meant? I was told possibly could be wheel bearings but jsut thought id ask.

Thanks Blake

a few things come to mind..

wheel bearings
pads moving in the caliper (I had this once, pissed me off to no end and it was a clicking noise, however have no fixed that :) )
Crap on the disc and pads clicking away

Do you have discs on the front?

How do i tell if the bearings are stuffed?

Jack the car up, grab the wheel and shake it. Check for any movement.
- Look to see where the movement is:
- Hub
- Ball joints
- Tie rod ends etc

If its the hub its likely to be the bearings. Its an easy enough job to change them.

If it was after a day on the skid pan, my money would be on the bearings, because you are putting a lot of sideways force on them.

probly a silly question but, do you have a brake pedal switch instead of the pressure one? could just be the switch clicking as its activated

Um reply to the switch question, it clicks several times from about 20k's down to a complete stop

My car did that `clicking' during low speed braking, after changing pads and checking everything else I found one disc rotor was cracked through...
So, I fitted a new pair.
