Hi, I'm picking up a mini from Victoria this week so I'll have to take it for a vehicle ID check at Regency Park for transfer to SA plates. I have done this once before but it was a 5 year old Ford Focus the only change from standard was window tint (which was legal anyhow). Now I know they are only supposed to check that the vehicles ID number and engine numbers are OK and match what it is currently rego'd as but are they likely to go searching elsewhere around the car? The car is a deluxe with a 1275, 7.5" discs, is really neat respectable car, currently rego'd in vic and passed their inspection less than a year ago I'm just iffy on whether they will like the Weber, exhaust (rc40), it doesn't have the BMC ID plate just the number on the firewall- and not one on the radiator shroud. Has anyone had this done recently and like to give an advice/recommendations? |

Admittedly, this was a few years ago, however I regoed a few vehicles from Interstate to SA Rego. I had a non-metropolitain address and so I didn't have to front Regency at all. I do not know if this has changed. A friend of mine, who was living in St Marys at the time, bought a bus from Vic and because he was in the metro area, he did have to take that to Regency. All I had to do was front at the local cop shop, fill in 1 sheet of paper, the desk officer then stamped it 'This Vehicle Is Now Roadworthy' then he noticed that the vehicle was a Leyland (moke) so he grabbed a rag from under the counter and wondered out to check the engine number agaisnt what I had written. I asked him about the rag and he said that 'These things always leak oil, I don't want to get any on my hands and I need to be able to read the engine number!' Apart from checking the engine number he didn't look at anything else at all, not lights, tyres, rust - nothing! He was a little amused as he didn't need his rag on my cars. |

Cheers for your replies guys. I actually spend most of my time out of Adelaide at the minute and have got my Rego'd address in the country reckon the local copper may be the go. He wont need to wipe oil of this one shes pretty neat and surely he won't be as picky on the carby, exhaust etc as I've heard regency can be.. |

there is 1 guy at regency who's a mini nut... so if you strike him no worries! however, i did mine at sturt 2 years ago as regency just freaks me out, makes me sweat, sphincter clench way too tight etc etc... i used to own rotary's! back on track, they have an inspection station at sturt right next door to the cop shop on sturt road, only open a couple days a week but they usually seem very chilled down there... my mini had a weber, stupid loud exhaust and wouldn't really idle properly... went through no worries. just make sure they can read the id number ok and that it matches the paperwork. just in case make sure all lights/wipers and wiper squirters (if fitted) are all working ok. sometimes they'll do a lights check.... good luck |

they wont check for roadworthiness unless something stands out. i took a rotary through there a couple months back and everything went fairly smooth. just make sure the vic rego is current or you have an unregistered vehicle permit as they'll do ya for driving an unregistered vehicle. |

ID inspection is the most relaxed part of having a vehicle "inspected" in South Australia. "Full" inspection, however, is slightly (and I mean slightly) more difficult. Having said that, I am completely pro for having annual vehicle inspections in South Australia. |

hmmm, i see its good points and like them... but it'll get rid of all our cheap dungers/project donors.... the annual system is rorted so much in NSW all you need is dodgy mechanic and a carton.. same thing goes for noise defects in victoria given by the EPA, a carton and a mate of a mate and you're off defect... i prefer to keep my cartons for me or for using to buy cheap daily drivers. |

I'm facing a similar situation. Currently a Vic registered car, original shell but different engine block, fibreglass bonnet and boot, perspex rear and back rear side screens. In fact not much original left on the car. Also low and loud.. |
