Yes it is, as in Vizard's book, but carb was special for a Lotus. Jukka Harkola (MM site) did it on a Mini with turbo, had lots of grief to get it right. Suck-thru is commonest for supercharging, but not great for turbo where the turbine runs a zillion rpm.. ![]() |

found this on google groups (USENET) while reading up on dellortos: Quote: A friend has been working on a turbo conversion for his mini, but

Maniflow exhaust Safety devices roll cage 7x13" Superlights Polycarbonate windows Fibeglass boot and bonnet Twin tanks Metro four pot calipers and vented disks as well as the usual HiLo's, adjustable shocks etc Anyway, he finaly got the engine running after a couple of weeks of nightmares. The enigne ran first time but a load tapping noise was comming from the area of the timing case. After removing the timing cover nothing was found, but the noise was still there, and not sounding healthy. He decided to remove the engine and strip it, mainly for his own peace of mind, but found nothing, and the noise was still present after reassembly. Eventualy, it was found to be nothing more serious than the crank pulley was touching a high spot on the timing cover! The next plan is to sort out a distributorless ignition, as the raditor doesn't leave a lot of space! He's aquired a distributorless coil from a F*rd and we have come up with a way to modify the existing distributor to just provide timming for the sparks, but no spark distribution.(and therefore no distributor cap/ht leads) Anyway, he's got a digital camera, and he's not afraid to use it, so he's put hnudreds of pic's on his web site. The biggest problem you have is that you have to pressurise the float chambers so the fuel flows in the right direction on boost, and seal a whole heap of fiddly little bits to make sure that the boost pressure does not force stuff in the wrong direction. Plus you have to fiddle a lot to get your mixtures right because it is not a common thing to do. The big advantage with the blow through is you can use an intercooler before the carby. Ever wonder why turbocharching never really took off untill EFI was sorted? |

Check out: http://www.geocities.com/jharkola/1380turbo.html He did a Dell'orto turbo, but was running a DHLA 45M carb already modified for a turbo. It is my understanding though that you can modify a normal Dell'orto to use as a blow through. As for using it on a suck through, it seems to me a bit pointless running a twin choke carb on a suck through turbo, but maybe it's just me! Anto |

Janspeed's blow through turbo setup used a dellorto....its in Vizards book somewhere. |

There was a two barrel downdraught Weber specially made for blow-through turbos. One sold on e-Bay a few months ago - 34DMTT I think? You can get a manifold to fit this carb onto a Mini, as the popular 28/36DCD and 32/36DGV carbs use the same bolt spacing. ![]() |
