Post subject:  ok, my turn for "What`s it worth"

lets say (for EG) that my Monaco fastback conversion gets approved & i start producing twin-cam, turbo-charged, 1360cc powered Monacos, all appolstered & painted, all Dtp of TpT approved, mag wheels, adjustable suspension, disc brakes etc etc etc,,, Blah Blah Blah

What would one be worth?,,, what would you pay? (if you actually wanted one that is)

Now , we`re talking power in the region of 160hp & upwards,,, smooth & drivable, pump fuel, no dramas,,, we`re talking awsome handling & stopping,,, we`re talking neat & tidy interior & quality body job from Archie & paint job from Stewy,,, caged & strengthend,,, wired to the hilt with a loom you`d crack a hard-on over

all ready to turn-key & go

how much is it worth?

& what colour would you like ?

:-)

what would it cost for you to produce one of these beasties?
Labour and parts from all the people?

Author:  blue_deluxe [ Fri Nov 19, 2010 5:06 pm ]
Post subject:

Itd probably end up being closer to 50 grand after all of the labour, thats a rough add up, then profits for everyone and cost of parts added on.

Could you release a kit? similar to the marcos in the uk where you can buy it at different stages.
ie i cant spray so id buy one pre painted but in pieces.

And grey or white i think.

good question :-)

i won`t be selling mine anytime soon ,, but its the "Repo" version is what i`m talking about

as for what they cost to make,,, well that`s totally up to the customers "Wish-List",,, however,,, Just the bits for mine (Parts & body work only) cost me "so-Far" $45K

& there`s still plenty to go before it`s finished,,, & that`s not counting my own build labour

But,... I must add here,,, that cost is purely for my own personal "Special" version :-)

what's the deal with these? fibreglass body? modified steel body? Is it done on exchange basis?

Author:  TheMiniMan [ Fri Nov 19, 2010 6:19 pm ]
Post subject:

normal steel mini body modified (roof chopped off & windscreen frame raked back) & then body strengthened & roll cage added, & fit the fiberglass fastback roof

It's near on impossible to build any ICV or kit car in Australia for less then $30k and half of them are built for the joy of the build, not the ownership at the end. The market for hand-built cars is very small here and is filled with near new cars the owner's built for fun but now don't enjoy owning. Successful manufacturers are few and far between.

Realistically, the best market is preparing track day cars. No engineering approval, no DOT, no trim to design, no airconditioning, no worries if the roof leaks, no worries with any luxuries. A sub 30k version of the Radical or Westfield XTR2 (without the feet forward of front axle  ) would be an instant winner. Spaceframe, bike engine, fibreglass bathtub upside-down on top, NC MX-5 uprights. As long as it is way faster than a $10k NA MX5 track car it will be a Winner.

Sorry Matt, I don't think the Monaco is going to be your retirement project. You'll lose money on every one built.

funny enough i reckon you`re right on most of those points Mark

hence (in response to one of those points) is why i`m building the MTR1 specials

& i`m not selling "My" genuine Monaco,,, NO WAY!!!,,, but if i made a few, as track cars that can be registered & driven to the track & club meetings etc,,, well,,, i reckon there`d be a few who`d want one (or 2) :-)

But this is why i ask the question,,, if i were to build another couple, would they sell? How much for? & would i make any money?

People would probly have to drive mine before they could decide if it were worth it hey? :-)

I`m sure they would out-perform the late BMW MINI & be way way cooler too :-)

My engineer is pretty happy with what we`ve done so far , so we`ll wait & see what his verdict is at the end of the first "Repo"

But is $50K too much??? or too little???

In my opinion and knowledge:
There are people that would spend 50 grand on a car you drive to track days and club meetings. But that 50 grand in one hit would be a hard pill to swallow. Most original build cooper s restorations would cost that, but over a long period of time.

Have you thought about getting the engineer on board, selling it as a kit (maybe modify the shell in house to keep quality control) and telling the customer to see the engineer (or you holding their hand when they go) themselves. This would spread the costs over the build period.

My opinion for what it's worth. You could ask about the same money
as a fully restored Cooper S if your car was finished as nice as a fully
restored Mini. Maybe a touch more because of the motor.
The question is..... Would you get your monies worth for your effort, presentation would be everything.
But then again, they seem to get massive $$$$$ for show winning hot rods
so the second question....Is there a market for the car?
Build one and see, it's the only way.
Personly I would prefer an all fibreglass one. You would have to make all the molds (more trouble?) But if done right, the molds would always be worth money, a saleable asset.
All fibreglass Monaco could become a model in its own right (the "Reedmonac" :D ) since it would have its special motor.

Hey Matt, have you not seen the window stickers "It's a classic NOT plastic"
So do a hand made roll form aluminium body classic :D . By the time you found enough shells that you didn't have to replace all the rusted bits you could build a new one cheaper and easier.
