Ok guys I,ve been umming and arring about what circa mini to buy and what condition to buy it in. Ideally I would like a mini that resembles a late model rover sportspack (big flares on 13's). It also needs to have air con and be reliable (if there is such a mini) to keep the Mrs happy, be a manual to keep me happy and preferably an injected 1275. I'm after a few opinions on peoples personal experiences or expertise. Should I.......... a) Go all out and buy one that ticks all the boxes (however I am hopping to spend know more than $15k b) Buy an older model mini & do an engine conversion, add flares and some massive 13's c) Settle for a $6k late 80's rover and spend some $$$ on it (although not injected) If you could do it all again which option would you choose? Or what other option would you recommend? Thanks in advance ![]() |

Why do you need injection? I can't really see any major advantages. If I were you I'd get the best mini you can buy with your money. All cars need work and no mater what one you get you will be working on it and spending money on it. |

Buy the finished product. I have built a 60s mini to full 99 rover spec, and wouldn't do it again. The more expensive rover will save you money in the long run. |

Have you got mechanical ability?,,, have you got the room for major mechanical/body work,,, have you got all the tools & equipment to perform any of the usual rebuild/resto work needed to start from an old crapper??? No>>>???? well,,, have you got most of the above to be able to competently & quickly perform the usual repairs & maintenance needed to keep these old girls going??? No??? well then buy one already done to your needs/specs/wants & make sure you have a local mini specialist (who knows what they`re doing & are honest) to keep it in tip-top shape for you to be able to drive it with confidence that it`s not going to break down on you But,,, if you have the time... space... tools & equipment,,, know-how & determination,,, & the money to do one exactly the way you want it,,, then go for it there`s nothing quite like being able to say """I Made This Myself""" but then i like making stuff ![]() |
