Hi Guys, this may be a stupid question so please don`t shoot me down for asking it. I generally like to think things through before doing a job, with the removal of the driveshafts, in order that I can remove engine, if the driveshafts are fixed at both ends ( the hub at the outer and the diff at the inner end), how can you lever the shaft out of the diff. :? :? :? Am I separating the pot joint or levering the whole joint from the diff ?? As I want to do a front end disc conversion as well, I will need to remove the hubs anyway so could I do that before attempting to remove the driveshafts??

un-clip the rubber boots from the inner pot joints & the axles will come out, taking the inner guts (balls & cage) with them

I hear what you are saying Matt but I have movement in the shaft about 10mm away from the inner joint but then it stops as if its hitting against something. Do they just pull out freely or do I have to lever them out ?? Is the problem at the hub end??

Should just slide straight out with no resistance whatsoever. I did mine about an hour ago (for the 4th time in recent months :( )

There isn't much of a trick to it once you have the top ball joint split and taken the straps off the pot joint boots

If your inboard CVs are really worn, they can catch like this. Just keep tugging away - at your shaft - and it will eventually come out

And I am taliking about removing the drive shaft from a Mini!

Hi guys again, well I`m an idiot. Talking about making it hard for myself. Austin 850 triggered a thought in that I hadn`t removed the nut completely off the top joint, after that the hub swivelled away and driveshaft came off easy. Now nearly ready to remove engine. To all those who have helped me with my first mini engine removal, Austin 850, Lockie 91,Lindsay,Blue Deluxe, matt the Mini man, Owen1975Richard and GT Mowog many many thanks. I know I haven`t finished with the car yet, but having a win, with help from others makes you feel good.
