Post subject:  What`s my motor ?

hi,

have a 1275 in my van with cooper s head.

my engine number starts 12H902 which i believe is a LS1275 motor, it has the side cover plates with a breather off the plate closet to the radiator.

is this correct for ls1275 motor ?

many thanks

If it's a 1275 with side covers, it's either a Cooper S block or a Clubby GT.
1275LS didn't have side covers, but they did have a breather on the timing cover and another on the flywheel housing.

Engine number says it shouldn't have tappet covers.

Haha... I've seen a 1275 auto with 998 number, Cooper S with 850 number.
Somebody might have had a 1275LS and their motor blew up... I'm not condoning this approach, just pointing out it does happen.

It might be an 1100S motor. You know, the 1100 motor out of a Mini S.

It may not even be a 1275- send us a pic of the block, from the front...

A photo showing the engine number pad would be good. You can cover the numbers if you like for privacy.

Grille side. Radiator won't give much away.

MY APOLOGIES EVERYONE.

motor has no side plates, don`t know what i thought i was looking at.so i guess it`s an LS1275 motor as per the engine number with a cooper s head.

It's not uncommon to have the extra head studs drilled and tapped.
