hey guys i have an 850 that has had an 1100 fitted but i'm not sure on what it is out of. i have just bought a new exhaust but am still chasing an inlet manifold but because i don't know what the carbie is i'm not sure what manifold to buy.

it is an su carby but i'm not sure on what size, how can i be sure of what it is?

can i just pull the carby off and measure it or will there be a code that i can reference on it?

Does it have a small tag attached to one of the float bowl screws? If so, what's stamped on it?

Look at the bolt pattern where the carby joins the manifold.
If it has two studs one straight above the other it is a 1¼"
If it has two studs on an angle it is a 1½"
If it has four studs in a square it is a 1¾"

This only applies to the normal run of the mill SUs.

The H4 carbies, which is 1½", as sold by BMC (through ST) also has a stud pattern simiar to the 1¼".

The HIF 38 and HIF 44 which are 1½" and 1¾" respectively also have a 4 bolt pattern, similar to the 1¾". These were fitted to the latter UK cars and many have found their way out here.

Throw up a pic would be your best bet.

It's an 1¼" known as a HS2.

does anyone know of an inlet manifold to suit the hs2 that will fit with extractors?

Use the one you have got and just angle grind the exhaust manifold off it and use the inlet only. Be careful when grinding though that you dont go through the the wall of the inlet

Seconded, but the hs2 is awesome for economy. Only cos it cant put enough fuel in lol.

well i've found someone willing to give me a set of carbs and a manifold off a austin healy sprite. it's a twin 1 1/4 carbs and a manifold.

will these bolt straight on?

The Sprite manifold is 20°, the wrong angle, the carbs will probably hit on the firewall.
The carbs are fine though!

Grab em, then flog the manifold. Someone here will have a Mini one (30°) cheap that will take the carbs.
