when you spill butter cake batter on your new engine block, how long can the batter be considered to be still edible?

The block has been hot tanked.

thanks.

Had you sprayed the top of the block with WD-40?
That'll be good for an extra few seconds - lowers the water activity and prevents microbes from growing as quickly, if at all.

Yeah, so!! , are you putting the engine together in the kitchen,?, or cooking in the shed,
which one is it ?

It was oily, but ok.

The shed adjoins the garage as it happens. I get to sample the goings on in the kitchen.

Oh so you were building the engine on the kitchen bench?

I meant to say the kitchen adjoins the garage (or vice versa depending on one's perspective.)

I would like to think that the kitchen scales are in fact the garage scales, loaned to the kitchen for useful evolutions such as cake making.
