Yes, but with the number of imports floating around it still could be a legitimate question. From my uneducated viewpoint, the major difference is the doors having internal hinges on Mk2's versus external on Mk1 minis and the later Mk2's having fuel injection (single point initially, then multi-point). Interior in the later cars is better appointed and I think the later ones all had 8.4 discs (?) I'm not aware of too many discussions previously on the differences but I could be wrong. |

Oh ok that was what i thought but was confused with this, http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67308 as he said to me in another thread it was mk2. So going on this hes got his info wrong? not that i care really lol. Oh and when did they phase out the push button on the floor? Thanks guys |

internal hinges appeared on the English Mk3. English Mk 2 had Clubby rear lights Push button starter died off in Oz at the end of the Morris 850, 1964ish? Mk 3 & Mk4 English Minis well I know sweet FA about. |

The mini models vary between countries of origin. UK had: mk1: 59-67 mk2: 67-69 mk3: 69-76 mk4: 76-84 mk5: 84-90 mk6: 90-97 (actually end 96) mk7: 97-2000 Australia had: mk1: 61-78 Thats it. People talk of mk1.5 and mk2 aussie minis depending on when they were built, but they are all based off the uk mk1 design. |

Australia did have a Mk1 & Mk2 Cooper S though. Mk1 1965 - 1968 Mk2 1969 - 1971 However both were based on the Mk1 mini body. |

BMC / Leyland Australia refer to MK II in parts catalogues and other internal publications. The term began with the 1969 Cooper S, Mini K, etc. |

Because of the aussie weirdness when you read anything about MKI versus MKII etc they are generally referring to UK specification. For UK MKI versus II: MKI had: rounded tail lights smaller rear window moustache style grill smaller rear side windows MKII had: squared tail lights (but not reverse lights yet) same rear window as later models grill shape same as later models ('hockey stick' sides) side windows as per later models Both had external hinges and slide windows. There were other differences in spec between Austin and Morris as well, such as opening rear windows versus fixed. Also as mentioned above some changes were not made at the 'MK' change - like floor starter, floor dip switch , gauge changes etc. |

In Australia I suppose you could split the different types into a set of groups to show when the main changes model occurred. 61-65, Morris 850, Morris Cooper. (assembled from CKD kits.) 65-69, Morris Mini Deluxe, Morris Mini Minor, Morris Cooper S. (locally made.) 69-71, Morris Mini 1100 "K", Morris Mini 1100, Morris Cooper S Mk2. (locally made.) 71-73, Mini Clubman, Clubman GT, Mini 1100. (locally made.) 73-75, Leyland Mini, Leyland Mini S. (locally made.) 75-78, Leyland Mini, Leyland Mini S. From 76 Leyland Mini SS, LS, From 78 1275LS (locally made with imported motors.) |

Not really. It is very easy to tell the different types. The body prefix tells the story. A lot of the body changes were minor and happened in the middle of a model run. The floors were modified in 67, the wipers changed sides in 68. The biggest change was the Clubman front in 71, even then all the mechanicals carried on the same as the K. |

Yes, also the official list at the RTA NSW, which would have been supplied by BMC of Australia originally, refers to the Cooper models as... Cooper Cooper S Cooper S series II would be interesting to see how the other models are denoted. |
