when compairing SU needles what do the changes in numbers at the stations represent ?

if a number increases does that mean it`s richer at that station ?
number decreases is it leaner ?

many thanks

the numbers are measurements in thousandths of an inch, so when comparing needles at any given station, the smaller the number, the richer the needle
