I was over at a mates place who i havn't seen in a while and his brother used to own a mini, and his dad saw mine and started talking about them..

Did you know that a 998 Cooper motor powered mini is quicker than a 1275 cause the 'donks weight offsets the power gain

Here's the doozy a Honda civic SOHC motor bolts STRAIGHT in to the standard engine mounts, no fabrication or modifications necessary

I kinda blanked him out at that point... ;)

I'll try to remember that... if I ever plan on upgrading to a slower engine. Honda SOHC.... gee great.

i know that something may have to do with a shorter bore
which means higher rev ability
which means higher acceleration

but dont know if it applies to this

Dont you love, when old people see us young ones driving them and they are like

"oh, yes my brother/cousin/freind had a cooper s. They were legendary cars in their day, they would just handle so well"

and your like "oh really" while thinking: "really, i never new/heared of a cooper s, even though i am with 3 other mini people and obviously going for a cruise, i had NO idea minis were fun to drive, and NEVER would have guessed they had handling that was legendary"

but then what tops it off is when people used to come over to me when i was working on the mini and say

"oh, did you know there is a new mini out"

what ll you do with them?

yeah, you've got to laugh with some of the things people tell you about minis.

I was standing next to my mini in the car park and this guy came up to me and said: "Is that a mini?", "I thought those were outlawed in the 80s." :? :?

I just said. "No, I don't think so".

I had another guy ask me is my mini was an 850 or an 1100, I said it was a 1 letre and he goes "geez, that's rare" :? :?

I don't know why people think they know so much about minis.

My latest bit of "Knowitallness" was telling my mate who has no idea about cars other than car brands and models about Brad's pocket rocket. I said, "yeah this thing is a ballistic missle, it does 13s! 0-100 in 5.2 secs at the best run"

So he took out his pocket PC that lists all the 0-100 times of the latest modern cars and sarcasticly says to me "gee this this is in the same league as a Porsche, or a BMW M3 or a..."

Needless to say I spent the next 30mins explaining power to weight ratio. I think we left the conversation after full frustration from my end

I think maybe a worked 998 would be close to HP output from a stocker 1275..but the 1275 is still going to have more torque and still beat it..

Higher revs = more HP, It's just a multiplication of torque...and you can get a 1275 to rev to 8,000rpm...998 is going to need alot of work to withstand the revs as it may be a short stroke motor, but the stock parts are still weak...

Haha so true...I never new mini's were fun

Also i find because we're so young you get people off the street who are alot older and they think you don't know anything about car's or mini's in particular and they spell their wisdom on you cause they once had one...

I'm all for interest in the car, but I hate it when people have no idea, I've had people come up and give me advice of somewhere to go to get something done which was helpful, but there is just alot of bullshit out there and I don't think i've seen it with any other car as much....

I just bite my lip and act dump "ohh reeally?!" hehe

on the flip side, you then go to a Mini meet, or Mini cruise and you talk to some of the people there and some of them can tell you the width and length of screws on your car they know so much....

Hmmmm, yes like Jack Read up here yesterday........i say to him "Need a Wheel Stud Jack"......

He responds with the length and part # without consulting the manuals or the PC.....

Freakish, he does it every time i go there, and when he is wrong he has either quoted the part # from a different distributors parts guide (which is still right anyways) or he's a number out

theres a bloke at work who reckons he had one of the ex-works minis, i was inclined to think he was full of crap, but he obviously knew a bit about them. hehehehe he said
