Post subject: | Tie Bar Bolt Removal |
Hey guys I thought i would change my tie bar rubbers as they had perished. When removing the back nut attached to the lower control arm i hit the brake line behind the brake drum with the bolt head thus not allowing me to take the bolt out. Is this common? Am i missing a step somewhere? Thanks |

You may need to undo the lower ball joint so as to gain the clearance to remove the bolt. Dont be tempted to replace the bolt up from the bottom-up as I did once and the nut worked loose and the bolt fell out at 100km/h and the mini wanted to do a hard left turn. ![]() Luckily I was holding onto the steering wheel with both hands. ![]() |

you might find you can get it out if you jack up the hub - put your jack under the ball joint |

Thanks guys. With a lot of subtle pressure i used a combination of both your advises and it had enough clearance. Thanks |

The bolts are put in that way so even if the nut come off, the bolt is un-like to come out (but still can ![]() |

Good you replaced them. A 50 cent service job I do once a year on the Mini. |
