Mini friends I need help.

Upon reversing out of the driveway this evening, I lost reverse with a clunk and a kind of grinding noise. Tried 1st and same.
Even when I pushed the car back into the driveway there was a kind of grinding whirring noise and a couple of clunks.

I haven't had a chance to look at the problem at hand (had to go to mum and dads for a roast) but will have a look tomorrow night after work.

Any hints on what could be the cause or remedy.

Pot joints? Diff? ?????

It is my clubman 1100 daily driver.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my mum for sacrificing her car for the week until I fix the problem.

Well, my problem turned out to be a crook slave cylinder on the clutch.
After removing the rust in there and bleeding the system, the car was back to normal.
If you can get the car in gear while stopped, and won't start easily when in gear, then it's lik my problem the other day- the clutch system.

The clutch seems to engage ok, I am thinking it has something to do with the gearbox...??

could it be the rod change mechanism itself has a broken bracket?
mine did, made the whole process of swapping cogs difficult....

When it happened to baracade, it was his diff's planet gears in little pieces! :cry:

G'Day Simon,
If it went clunk and grind while you were in motion and not when attempting to change gears , then in my case it was a deceased layshaft bearing. The whole thing popped out. R.I.P. mate, only time I ever needed a tow truck to limp home!

Well I had a little peak last night, looks like part of the problem is a seized/collapsed CV joint, as when the wheel turns the CV joint stays on a really weird angle. It was too late to pull the CV joint out last night maybe tomorrow night.

Would this cause any internal gearbox problems??

Axle may be broken where it goes into CV. Symptoms similar to above.
No it won't hurt the gearbox... :wink:

So would the axles still turn coming out of the gearbox if in gear?

I will have a better peak tomorrow night. Thanks for all you help. I hope I can still make Saturday morning at RE.

If I do, I probably won't have the mini.
