On the ignition coil? No. Is your charge indicator light glowing? |

If youre sure its the Alt and not the MANY other things that Minis like to do to us just for fun, take the alternator to your local auto elec, 2 mins on his test bench will give you a definite dead or alive and most dont charge for this service. Good luck mate |

How old's your battery?, does it have enough water in it?, make sure the water is covering the plates. |

Definitly not fuel, its a charging issue as your cars electrics are using up what little voltage is left in the battery after jump starting, dont be running it out of power too often, batterys hate being drained out. Personally id say its the alternator but theres alot of people on here smarter than me who may know more |

It does sound as though it is a charging prob. Have you checked all the wires are connnected properly. Take it to an auto electritican. They will be able to test it and most likely repair it and it will cost less then a new one. |

Definitely sounds like the charging system. Could be any number of things though. What year/model? If the car is going (or you can charge up the battery and start it), and you have a volt meter you can test the alternator yourself without taking it out: http://www.ehow.com/how_2283281_test-car-alternator-power.html If it does end up being the alternator, it may be something simple like the bushes are worn and need replacing, this is like a $5 to $10 part. I'd be trying to find the root cause first rather than replacing random things in your engine bay. Good luck. |

The brushes (not `bushes') are about $15/pr at my local auto sparky, on most Lucas alternators they can be changed with the alternator still in the car. |

![]() I once sent my wife to the auto elec and she asked for some "Bushells" for the alternator for her FJ40. Took a bit of explaining but eventually the guy behind the counter knew what she was talking about. |
