Post subject: | Xmas hols road trip |
Hi folks. On Boxing Day we'll be heading from Sydney to Urunga Heads with a fly loaded mini towing my new trailer to go camping for a few days. Just wanted to ask a couple of things. First any advice on what to do to prepare the car for being so heavily loaded for the trip. Secondly which spares should I pack? Also is there anyone that lives between Sydney and Urunga Heads that's willing to be an emergency contact in case of breakdown (or to give me names of mechanics etc)? |

Hopefully things have changed but I doubt it.... be prepared for very heavy traffic leaving Sydney on Boxing day... I once got stuck in a traffic jam for many hours - constant stop start stuff.... Was very glad I had air con that day... (wasn't in a mini) So make sure you have plenty of food and drink.... And check your cooling system is all OK before you go. I used to head up to Byron Bay from Canberra in my mini - and no dramas at all if the car is basically OK. Suonds like a good trip - have fun. |

Got NRMA cover already. Checking water, oil, tyres, petrol, wipers, lights, brake fluid before we go. It's got new spark plugs from a couple of weeks back. Will take oil, water, coolant, spark plugs, leads, jump cables, cable ties, jack, basic tools. |

cool, have fun! i'd look at taking.. fuses, wire, side cutters, pliers, shifter (adjustable wrench), big ass torch, fan belts, WD-40. since your fully loaded and towing id make sure the brakes are in top working order, maybe put a new set of pads in the front as it can be quite hilly and on a long trip you don't want to have to worry about them. |

![]() I don't think we used to take that many spares when we did the moke trips thru the out back ![]() How often is your mini serviced? How old is the motor (as in when was it last rebuilt.... if ever?).... does it tend to give you trouble? How often do you take it out, and what kind of driving do you do in it? If its serviced at normal intervals, and you check everything over each time, and its not a naughty mini most of the time, you should be fine ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope you have a blast and I'll probably see you on the road ![]() <edit> check your wheel bearings before you leave ![]() Tyre pressure Wheel bearings brakes (fuild and pads/shoes) look at your CV's change the oil + filter check coolant check air filter and you should be sweet ![]() |

Yep, was thinking about fan belt today as i posted this earlier. Will give Karcraft a call in the morning and see if they can express me one for thursday/Friday. Don't need points as electronic dizzy Fuel, yes, will dig out fuel can and add it in Fuses, tools, torch (going camping so we've got a ton of torches anyway), WD40, check. New EBC Green stuffs went on in Aug/Sep and the master cylinder and brake proportioning valve were replaced as well. Ta On the subject of getting out of Sydney on the 26th. Do you think if we hit the F3 by 7.30am we'd be OK. Very keen to avoid getting stuck in traffic. |
