The improved production racing people have told me a mini clubman with a Rover 200 engine (Honda D16) will not be eligible to run in that class, even though both are Leyland vehicles, because the "Rover mini" and “ Rover 200” where not homologated in group A, (as far as they know), and non of these cars where available in Oz showrooms.

Does anyone know a link to FIA listings or have any info on FIA mini or Rover listings.

I think we should be able to run in this class, along side escorts with Mazda duratec engines etc etc.

They did run Group A rally cars in the mid 90's.

"The Last Works Minis" book relates this story. Will check later if it has more detail (eg listiing of homologation papers)

The main thing is to meet these requirements..

on a large scale as an imported used car. Prospective competitors desiring to use such cars must provide
information regarding the number registered for road use in Australia, and a basic recognition document
containing all such technical details, photographs and other specifications as may be required by CAMS. The
CAMS Recognition Committee shall make recommendations to the AMRC who will be the final arbiter of
acceptance or otherwise of any model


The best bet for the late Mini is to get Group A papers if they exist or get in under 1.1(iii) and get info about how many have been imported by people like Brickworx and others.

From the FIA website it looks like there is some Minis homologated for Group A...

5027 A Austin Mini 848 01.01.1966 GB 1 Tr
5405 A B.L. Mini 1275 GT 1275 01.04.1971 GB 5 Tr
5667 A Innocenti Mini 120 SL 1275 01.10.1977 I 2 Tr
5673 A Innocenti Mini 90 SL 998 01.12.1977 I 4 Tr
5718 A Innocenti Mini De Tomaso 1275 01.10.1978 I 2 Tr

A lot of the existing Group 1 homologations were automatically extended into Group A when it started. That is how come a 66 Mini or a 71 Mini can be Group A.

I would try to claim it is a continuation of the 1275GT.

You will find that Rover Quintet is the nearest thing that was imported into Australia which is basically a Honda Accord with Rover badges. Rover 200s were never imported, and IMHO that D16 engine is not the best choice of Honda engines anyway.

I am looking a IP for a Mini as well, and I think if you really want to do it, you would be better off getting GR to build you a crossflow head, 1480cc, new forged crank motor and put it on top of a S/C gearbox assembled by Mini Classic (or your local race preparation specialist).

One IP guy in SA here uses a 1071 block, it has a BMW bike head on it, and is currently going down the turbo path.

He's had it running as a 5-port turbo for many years, and it holds its game up quite well.

I love the IP class... the record holder for many tracks, and "king" of SA here is Tony Wallis in his Mazda 808 with a BP18 turbo.
