Whats the go with replacing a single row timing chain in a 998? Difficulty level low?

Also can you fit a double row chain and new gears?

Any help appreciated as I am obviously yet to tackle this job.

Replacing the chain is easy, in the car or out.
If you want to fit the duplex kit, that is easy too, however the 2 lowest front plate holes have to be countersunk to suit the csk screws supplied. This is necessary to clear the wider chain.

Oh Ok. Doesn't sound too bad then.

Would you recommend going for the duplex kit?

I have the radiator out and am now wondering if there are any other jobs I should be doing while the rads out?

Thanks

I would go for a duplex kit, as I bet your old sprockets are worn. However the chains & kits available are not all the same quality, many chains sold now are rubbish. Probably the best locally available duplex kit is Rollmaster, it usually comes with a quality German made Iwis chain.

As the radiator is out, if it looks grotty at all inside I would get a radiator shop to recondition it. Should cost less than $100 or they are ripping you off.

I'm about to do the same to my van by new years..

I'm doing the water pump while I'm there and got everything off outta the way, just to ensure that I don't have to go back there for a while,

I've got a nice shiney High flow one to go in.. a double row chain and new sprokets, my reco'd rad, and a new belt,,

Lots more going in, but thats just in that area...

If you need a hand this week, PM me and I'm happy to walk you through anything if need be mate.

One of those will be fine. I guess it just depends how much you want to spend. The Roll master as I think Kev said is top Quality.. however if your not chasing HP and not too concerned about it all, the cheaper one will do you perfect.

If you have the extra $$ to spend on it, I say go for the roll master, but I have used both, and it only depended on which car I was putting it on and the $$ I had at the time really..

PM sent
