I have a '66 Cooper S in many, many pieces (someone else pulled it apart unfortunately) and it has what look like factory-created holes that seem to correspond to this bit of gear on this machine I found on the 'net. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks, Jamie I don't know but is it the starter solenoid with the remote starter button. I thought these were normally bolted to the block though. KB |

yeh looks like a solenoid with a starter button on it, exactly what KB said. Dan's grey mini Mary has one like that. you put the key in and press the button to start it from the engine bay. very neat. |

The horn is actually mounted on the bonnet close panel in the pic, right in front of the push button type starter solinoid that is mounted on the primary case, just looks like it`s one bit, but it`s actually 2 different parts separated by an optical illusion of depth perception,,,dam big words for my for a sat nite

They're great for turning the engine over the dodgy way when doing the tappet adjustments!!

Just remember to take it out of gear  otherwise is the 'run yourself over' button.

nah, you dont get that problem with matics, just over heating, broken handles and dodgy brakes....

i tihnk morris minors had those things as standard?? but yes, i acknowledge the whole care factor thing when talking about morris minors

Thanks for all that, chasps. Trick photography to make two parts look like one! Does that mean I shouldn't be looking for a push-button starter in the boxes of parts I paid too much for? I get the impression that they weren't a standard Mini thing as such? Cheers, Jamie |
