Post subject:  Dynamat - Where to Cover
I bought one of the Dynamat extreme kits the other day, just wondering how much of the car I should cover and what are the main bits that I should definately cover first.
The kit says to start with the doors however is there room for it on the doors if we have door cards there aswell?
Any pointers?

It needs to be stuck to the inside of the outer skin, not the inner frame. So it won't affect the door cards at all. :D
The main bits would be inside the doors and quarters and if you've dropped your hood lining a few bits on that too. Then as much of the floor and the front and rear firewalls as you can do.

Thats my opinion anyways. :D

I had planned to do the following on my car:

-Boot floor
-Rear seat
-Floor
-Firewall
-Rear Quarters
-Doors

But I got lazy and decided it was too much work, too heavy and a PITA to remove if I need to. So, all I did was the angled and vertical part of the firewall, which only needed one sheet.
:D

With dynamat or whatever you have to consider what you want your outcome to be. If you want a quiet ride do the whole car and fit a smaller exhaust, if you want your stereo louder you'd only need to bother with the interior.
The other thing is that you don't need as much of the stuff as they slap on the cars in Overhaulin or similar telly shows. Looks good, but more than 50% coverage (could be as low as 30% but I don't know) on a panel and it's just extra weight.

Just just take the door Card off and apply & refit the door card

I did my mini Sonic in it and it took two boxes of the Dynamat Extreme.
I covered:
the roof,
firewall and behind the dash,
front and rear floor,
A pillar quarters (from top dash rail down to the floor),
C pillars,
rear parcel shelf,
rear side cards,
rear arches,
base of the rear seat,
and I have enough left to do the doors but I still need to do that.
I did not put any in the boot or on the back rest of the rear seat. Other than that the entire cab is covered, right to the edges, every possible square inch.
I am paranoid that their will be moisture under the floor and it will rust out but the way this stuff sticks I don't think it's an issue.

better yet was it worth the cost of two packs. Ive only bought one so im thinking all sides including doors and arches, then firewall then floor/roof depending on what is left.

depends if your trying to reduce road noise of your trying to make you stereo sound better. start with firewall and wheel wells, then boot, back seat and rear quarter panels. doors i would do skin as well as inside panel or if you dont have enough just make cardboard cutouts of the holes and gaffa tape then on. floor starting with the tunnel and the rest if you have spare. roof is overkill and would waste a heap. two boxes would add the weight of another heavy person to the car, bit much in my opinion - but you would hope there would be minimal road noise and you stereo would be deep

It has taken a lot of the tinny sound out of the car but if you want to make the car quieter while driving you'll need some normal sound deadener as well, but it dose help. Also the stero sounds good which is what the Dynamat is meant for.
The interior is all non-original but 3-5mm of Dynamat won't affect the fitment of a mini's interior.

IMO if you want to get away with only one box I'd leave the floor alone, get some on the roof, inside the doors and on the rear side panels. These large flat-ish panels will make the most tinny noises. Like Super mini said cut it into small pieces for the doors and DO NOT let the stick sides touch each other, it's worse than duck tape and with the cost of it you don't want to waste any :wink:
Just try and get some on the large panels, I used 4 on the roof, 1 on each door, and a bit under 1 on each rear side section. But if you space it out and don't worry about getting it right to the edges than you should be able to cover much more panels.

Hence why I suggested all the walls first..
