Post subject: | Lucas 29D4 Cooper S Distributor - AYG272 |
The standard distributor fitted to the MK II Cooper S and the Clubman GT was the Lucas 29D4 - part AYG175 - 62941090A. According to my research the first 70 Police specification MK II S's (SPO41) were fitted with a modified version of this distributor which had a white paint spot on the body as can be seen on the photo below of a distributor on one of my cars. Later SPO41 cars were apparently fitted with 29D4 part number AYG272. This may be Lucas part number 62941122B but I can't be sure. Does anyone have a distributor in their car or on the shelf with AYG272 or 62941122B engraved on the body? ![]() |

Give me a couple of days. I am heading up to my fathers place. The Bathurst car was a police pack and is Aug 70. Will check for you. |

Here's my distributor that was in my Police GT block 1205/xxxx. Don't know if it's the original one or not. Alot has happened in 42 years. were all MKII s with or without vacume advance? This one has none. I have a 29d from an 1100s with VA. ![]() |

All Cooper S Mk1 & 2, also GT had no vac advance. All others did, until ~75 or 76 when the 998 Clubby started. These had a 43D (which is a 45D but no vac). I don't recall what the 1275LS had, but probably the same deal as it was a smog motor. |

Kiwiinwgtn You have confirmed what I was looking for, thank you (that the Lucas serial number matched AYG272). Was your Clubman GT ex-NSW Police? |

The AYG272 was only ever fitted to Police Specification MK II S's (SPO41) and Clubman GT's (SPO28), to my knowledge (that's what the documentation says). It appears many (most?) SPO28 prepared Clubman GT's were not actually delivered to NSW Police but were sold off within the dealership, so evidence of Police use (holes for siren, two-way radio, etc.) will not be there. Did your car have a handbrake warning light, 1 1/2" SU's with RamFlo air filters, and single piece heat shield? Following is the Police Specification details for the Clubman GT from the Leyland parts catalogue: ![]() |
