Hi Everyone, I have just finished timing my new cam in, couldn`t have done it without everyones help on this forum, so thanks. I now want to set rocker clearances, but in my Gregories book is says valve rocker clearances for timing, 0.019".Just a bit lower down it also says valve rocker clearances cold 0.012" Can anyone tell me which one it is ?? :? :? :?

What cam is it?
.012" was running clearance for stock cams, most sporty aftermarket ones run bigger clearance.
eg Kent cams = .016"
Russell Engineering's RE13 and RE83 = .016"

These figures are for stock or 1.3:1 rockers, add .003" for 1.5:1 rockers.

So how come the book gives a valve clearance for timing of 0.019"

The factory manual gives a bigger clearance (.019", or sometimes .021")for CHECKING the VALVE TIMING, that is all it is used for.
And, that is only for use with the original BMC cams, not Kents, REs etc, many of which use .016" for checking.
There is NO standard clearance for checking cam timing that's used by everybody.

BTW,
High performance cams often use even bigger running clearances, my RE282 uses .022"/.024" with 1.5:1 rockers.
