Heyas,
Looks like my starter solenoid has packed it in again, so before i get get another one that will more than likely fail in the short term, i was thinking about getting one of the push button solenoids. Anyone have any bad experiences with these?? http://classicmotoring.net.au/cmos/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_146&products_id=1133
Or are there tricks to bring my solenoid back to life?
Cheers,
Dave

Usually when a solenoid is kaput, there ain't much you can do with it other than replace. I haven't used that particular one, however I have used a few of the same brand, just the later model type. I've had no problems at all with them.

These later ones I only pay about 25 bucks for (in a Lucas Box!), so do you really need the earlier type?

I had a similar one, bought from a Sydney supplier at around half that price...BUT....it only lasted a few months

I use a Gemini starter, the existing solenoid is just there for decoration and as a joining block.

I would try to get old ones rather than new ones. The new ones just don't seem to last for long.

As I said I got only 3 months out of an Echlin one (late Lucas lookalike).
So I put a new `green box' Lucas on it, must be 5 years ago- it's still good.
They are not dear, as GT m said.

My experience has the push-button ones winning on reliability plus i like being able to turn the motor using the solenoid rather than the ignition key when fiddling under the bonnet.

thanks for all the replies. i dont really mind what type it is but it would be handy for working under the bonnet, and hopefully last longer than the crap ive been getting. where do you get yours for $25 if you dont mind me asking?

Sorry to revive this one...

GT, are these push button ones or the lucas ones from KC?

Thanks.

The late Lucas ones like what they fitted to Clubbies.
