I'm trying to recover some body shell panels, and they have some brazed joints. Having no experience with brazing, what is the best way to release a brazed join? Get a propane torch and heat??????? Thanks |

Thanks I'm not sure if a propane torch would have the heat you need to release the brazing (I assume you're refering to the seem covers?) Brazing is done with an oxy torch, and thats usually how I "release it",, using oxy. |

when you use a oxy flame on brazing try to keep the temperature low enough for the bronze to melt with out melting the steel other wise the 2 metals try to alagamate and it will fizzle and splatter everywhere. The steel with bronze intrustion is the very difficult to weld using normal steel welding proceedure. |

I use oxy/LPG for brazing now, it works just as well or better and I don't contribute as much to the BOC Gases bottle rental fund. ![]() |

Sorry for the slight side-step in the thread, but is there no alternative means of buying oxygen and acetylene except through the large multinationals who obviously collude to make bottle rental and gas prices so similar to each other that there's no competition? The consumer is being ripped off big time. ![]() I read somewhere that in the UK there are single-use bottles available in small capacities. Like many backyarders my oxy set is rarely used, but it's so useful when you need to braze, fabricate or heat those tricky little jobs that come up every so often. I've begrudgingly outlayed thousands over the years in rental fees and would love a cheaper alternative. ![]() |

I can't remember the brand but I seen a poster at Toolies advertising.... buy the bottle and just get it filled when required. Which would have to be a boon to backyard hobby shops. |

In USA and maybe UK, you buy the bottles and get them filled. Like LPG. Not so here.... Air Liquide, BOC and Linde Gas own the bottles and they all charge a fortune in rental. Try Supagas, the only Oz one- they might be a little cheaper. http://www.supagas.com.au/products/indu ... -cylinder/ I would use my oxy once every 3 months, maybe. I minimised my BOC rental by using the smallest oxy bottle (D size). The 9kg LPG bottle I own, costs me $20 to refill. Oxy+LPG works fine for cutting, heating and brazing. The one thing it won't do is fusion welding, but that's what my MIG is for! ![]() |

I remember that they were a little on the dear side, but for the ocational user, would definitely be just the ticket. I'll come back here when I remember where I saw them. <EDIT> I think it was Gasweld. drmini in aust wrote: Not so here.... Linde Gas owns BOC world wide these days (has done for 4 years now), so it's all just another cartel ![]() |

My gas is through Supagas. Rather than having to pay yearly rental fees for the cylinders, they do it month by month. ![]() |
