so i have been loosing some oil.

i noticed my cv out put boot has tears in it some how.

would alot of oil pee out of that & flick onto the engine?

the oil seems to be coming mainly from the back of the engine and dripping down.

none of the usual places like gearbox oil seal etc.

anything other spots i should look at.

Which side?

The boot may not be torn, it just may have become un-seated. In some inboard CV's they have a plug at the base of the splines. If that comes loose or starts leaking, engine oil will get in to the CV. When that happens, it also usually causes the boot to un-seat.

Normally there is LMM molygrease in the pot joint boot, not oil. As there isn't a lot of driveshaft movement and boot flex (compared to a CV) it tends to stay in there better. But if ripped you should change it, to keep dirt and road grit out.

yes has Lmm packed in there.

i just wondered if it will piss oil over my engine.

i think it is coming from back there.

It could be coming out of the diff side cover seal- tug the pot joint up and down and see if there's any movement.
The bronze bushes in the covers wear- if not replaced when worn, the seals don't last as long.

It's a rebuilt engine and myechic only stripped it 5,000ks
Ago to upgrade for a the blower :(

Since then it's been leaking more oil before.

I'll fix that and clean the engine and see.

That's a bit dissapoiting.

Bit of a silly thing to do but seen it more than once.... Punch or drift used to push outer CV onto circlip on diff output. This punctures the welch plug on inside of CV which allows oil to fill boot, popping boot off and spreading oil everywhere.

Cheers, ian
