Ok. my 998 has studs and nuts for connecting the head to the block.. The 1098 has bolts. As I will be putting the 1098 back together tomorrow with a not so Monotorque head gasket, which do you think I should use. What are your opinions/preferences and why...

The 1098 also had a paper oil filter so I'm going to change that to my spin on one from the 998. I think it's just a case of changing the studs from the long ones to the shorter ones.

In regards to the rubber half moon seal between the engine and gearbox does anyone use sealant at the ends? I was going to use some of the Loctite Blue RTV sealant there. I find it's more resistant to oil than some of the other types I have used. Also whilst on the topic of gaskets and such. Should I use the Loctite No 3 Aviation sealant or not bother? I used it when I rebuilt the 998 and that didn't leak oil, well not through the gaskets anyway.

All opinions welcome whilst in my drug induced stupor. Cheers peoples..

Do yourself a big favour and throw the head bolts in the bin. They are rubbish. Use the studs & nuts, however, it could be wothwhile measuring the diameter of the studs in three places on each to see if they have been stretched.

Spin on Oil Filter Head, yeap, just change the studs. The pipe work won't exactly line up, but close enough to be OK.

I use Permatex (Loctite) No. 3 on all paper based gaskets. It doesn't set, so allows for heat expansion without cracking. I also use it on the half moon seal although the Blue RTV is a better grade for that application. I have also fitted them dry without problem.
