Post subject: | Changing a wiper rack ferrule? |
The thread is stripped on my wiper rack ferrule (the fitting where the wiper motor drive cable joins the wiper motor). I've ordered a new ferrule and it's on it's way. Before I start pulling things apart, just wanted to check how you replace this part. I know how to disengage the cable from the wiper motor, I assume you have to remove the wheel boxes and tubes to get the cable out? ![]() Thanks for any advice on this. James |

1) Take the wiper arms off. 2) Remover the front cover off the wiper motor (or as Gafmo would put it 'Ripper Motor' ![]() 3) Remove the E clip holding the cable to the gear. Remove the cable from the gear, but be careful that you don't loose the little washers. 4) Swing the belden tube up out of the Wipper Motor. 5) Pull the cable out of the belden tube. It most likely won't come easy. 6) Remove the stripped ferral. 7) Install new ferral. 8) Re-assembly is the reverse of the above, although you may have to help the cable back in by turning the wiper spindles. |

Good description GT. I would also add that if you mark the wiper spindles and try to get them the other way up when it is re-assembled they will not be running on the same worn teeth that they have been using for the last 35 to 45 years. Give the cable a good clean and grease before re-fitting. |

Sit beer on air cleaner so it's in easy reach for when you are thirsty. |
