Hey guys,
I'm hoping to set up my head unit similar to this>
Image
I figured whilst I was at it I would upgrade my switches too but that means im going to have to figure a few things out. First off I have a 72 clubby with the big switch front.
As far as moving the heater switches go, are the any suitable push pull levers available that can handle a cable. And also has a suitable aftermarket switching system been found yet for the wipers/headlights?
Cheers.

well i could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time  )

But i would think you could move it wherever you want to and just use any similar functioning leaver system, A more modern car would be the go. But if seeing as they are just a cable that go's in and out, you could just use a pull knob like a choke cable if you wanted. As for switches, I'm sure it wouldn;t be too hard to find what your after at a specialist 12volt electrical store.

I did one a little while ago. Took about 12 months of planning and about another 9 months to build and iron out the bugs (fingers crossed).

The heater controls are 'light touch' (no cables at all now!), just like your modern controls. I did search high and low for alternative switches. I found some GREAT ones from the US, which I used, but cost a small fortune. Then I had to find someone here who could engrave them

It was a LONG and agonising road / comversion, but IMO the end result at least looks the part (and works that way too!)

Sorry, I have no pics on this PC to put up.

There's nothing clever about the switches, you could install anything that you like, particularly if you have a relay doing the switching.
Maybe get a later column with the wipers and lights on it?

I just found this which solves the wiper problem, the choke will probably work, any ideas on where to source a chrome knob style one?

well all you need is the actual knob as most are just attached with a grub screw. i'm sure some sort of parts accessories places would sell them
Then i assume you could use a heater cable off any car... ... find one that is long enough to go exactly where you want it to.

:D :D

I couldn't say, KW might use them. I think they are widely used in the upper end Marine stuff. I got a hold of the manufacturer's catalogue and then went searching for someone who would sell just a few switches  They really wen't cheap (nearly $100 ea!) and then I had to get them engraved, so very expensive exersize. I had to go on a very long seach for the engraver too as most who looked at them said 'ah, yeah, I think we can do them' but had nothing to show me as a reference. No thanks!
